Product review: Alpinestars Nucleon KR-2i and KR-Ci armour
I've always had one complaint about the Alpinestars jackets - they only come with elbow and shoulder armour. The back and chest protector compartments only get foam pads which are of no use when you come off your motorcycle. The Nucleon KR-2i and KR-Ci solves this problem. And that too, without breaking the bank.
Both protectors are built from PU injected impact foam and unlike a lot of the other replacement protection in the market, they aren't fixed form armour. They are flexible enough to adapt to the contours of your body. This means that if your jacket is well fitting, you will not feel the armour in place at all.
Another thing I like about the Nucleons are that they are vented. So on a hot summer day, you won't be left baking inside your jacket. However, expect to have sweat patches on your chest and back where the protectors do come in touch with your body.
The only disadvantage I can think of right now is that they do add a bit of weight to your jacket. But you will only notice it when you carry your jacket around. You don't feel the extra weight when you're wearing your jacket.
Now here's the part that really surprised me. Rishaad uses a Dainese jacket. When we tried to insert the Nucleons in his jacket, they fit perfectly. So if you don't want to pay big bucks for Dainese branded protection, Alpinestars just might be the best solution for you. And at CE level II certification, it isn't like you'll be making any compromise with regards to safety.
