Product review: K&N air filter
K&N is renowned for its high-flow air filters the world over which are distributed in India by Bangalore-based Methods Marketing. We installed a stock replacement filter for our long term Yamaha YZF-R15. Installing the air-filter is easy and requires no modification as the K&N air filter has been made specially for the R15. The stock air filter needs to be removed from the air filter box and replaced with the K&N unit. More air entering the engine increases combustion efficiency, this increases the power and acceleration of the vehicle. The K&N filter is made up of multiple layers of cotton gauze as against paper or synthetic materials as used in OE air-filters. The natural characteristics of cotton help in providing better filtration and higher air flow.

Talking numbers, the R15 accelerated to 100kmph from standstill in 12.8 seconds - 0.4 seconds quicker than the stock bike. This is impressive considering this is just a stock replacement filter, and not a performance one. Fuel consumption is similar to the stock bike and because the K&N air filter is reusable, you never need to change the air filter again.
