1.2 MPI Volkswagen Cross Polo launched in India at Rs 6.94 lakh
Volkswagen was one of the first manufacturers in India to launch a beefed up version of its premium hatchback, the Polo.
The car featured blacked out plastic cladding on its doors, scuff plates and such other bits to add to the crossover image. However, back then the car was only available in the highline trim with a three-cylinder diesel engine.
Volkswagen has now launched the Cross Polo with the same 1.2-litre petrol engine that has been around for a long time. Producing 74PS of power and 110Nm of torque, the engine is claimed to deliver a fuel efficiency of 16.47kmpl. Sadly, for the performance enthusiasts, there is no option of the 1.2 TSI engine in Cross Polo guise. The safety bits include ABS and dual front airbags, validated by the four-star rating that the car scored at the recent Euro NCAP crash test.
The car wears the same 15-inch alloys as seen on the previous Cross Polo as well as similar roof rails. The exteriors as well as interiors feature upgraded bits from the 2014 Polo. At the launch of the new Cross Polo, Michael Mayer, director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars, Volkswagen Group Sales India Pvt Ltd said, "With the new Volkswagen Cross Polo, we will inject some excitement into the premium hatchback segment in India. With its rugged, dynamic styling, upmarket interiors and high levels of safety, we are sure the new Cross Polo will appeal to buyers who like a bit of sportiness and individuality in their cars."
Bookings open from January 15, 2015 and prices start at Rs 6.94 lakh,(ex-Mumbai). The palette offered by Volkswagen comprises of three colours namely, Flash Red, Deep Black and Reflex Silver.
The new Cross Polo will continue to find contenders in the Toyota Etios Cross, the EcoSport and the recently launched Fiat Avventura.
