2012 Intermot Show: 2013 BMW R1200GS
BMW had already given the world a preview of what to expect from their stall at the Intermot Show 2012. Now here it is live, the 2013 BMW R1200GS. Only a close look can tell apart the 2013 model from the outgoing one â" LED DLRs for the main headlight (optional though), new adjustable windshield, adjustable rider seat height and footrest system amongst the many others.
A 1170cc Boxer-twin engine, same as earlier, but now with air and water cooling producing 125PS of power and 125Nm of torque powers this tourer. Instead of the dry clutch used earlier, BMW Motorrad has opted for a 6-speed gearbox with a wet-clutch and anti-hopping function. BMW have also integrated electronic cruise control as an option along with the standard five riding modes â" Rain, Road, Dyanmic, Enduro and Enduro Pro. Throttle responses are altered according to the mode selected and BMW is also offering ABS as standard while Dynamic ESA and Automatic Stability Control as optional.
The chassis gets a newly developed tubular all-steel bridge frame with a bolt-on rear. A Telever handles the front suspension while the rear is taken care by the EVO paralever. For improved performance, the tyre specs now read as 120/70 R19 at the front and 170/60 R17 at the rear.
