2014 Kawasaki Z1000 bookings start in India, display bikes arrive by December
After launching its litre-class bikes in India a few months back, Kawasaki is preparing to start sales of its latest naked superbike, the Z1000 here. The 2014 Z1000 was presented to the world at the recent EICMA 2013 show. We understand that the Kawasaki dealership in India is accepting pre-orders, though officially the bookings will open in the first week of December with the official launch slotted for December 25 or thereabouts. The on-road price of the Z1000 is expected to be around Rs 12.5 lakh. Kawasaki already sell their flagship sportsbike the Ninja ZX-10R and the hypertourer, the Ninja ZX-14R in India through the sole.

The Z1000 is powered by a 1043cc inline four 140PS/110Nm engine. Kawasaki says that they have made changes to the engine by adding a new intake cam setup which at low revs boosts the power. Then there is the better breathing and more vocal airbox as also new passages in the engine to cut pumping losses. Shorter final gearing and a taller sixth gear are the changes in the transmission. Kawasaki has upped the tank size from the old Z1000's 15.5 litres to 17 litres and this contributes to nearly a 3kg weight gain for the 2014 model. The Z1000 also comes with ABS as standard something which the outgoing version had as an option. Yamaha's FZ1 (Rs 8.70 lakh) and Honda's CB1000R (Rs 10.20 lakh), ex-Mumbai will be the main competitors of the Z1000 in India.
