2014 Porsche Cayman GTS and Boxster GTS to launch in UK by May

Porsche will launch more powerful GTS versions of its Cayman S sports coupe and Boxster S convertible this May in UK. Like the current models, the Cayman GTS and Boxster GTS are set to become the ultimate cars in their segments for most drivers.

The booking for the new coupe have started and the Cayman GTS has been priced at 55,397 pounds (Rs 56,16,625), while the Boxster is priced at 52,879 pounds (Rs 53,61,329) in the UK.

The GTS badge brings 15PS more power and roughly 10Nm more torque to an uprated 3.4-litre 6-cylinder horizontally opposed engine used in the S. This brings the max power/torque figures to 340PS/380Nm on the Cayman GTS and 330PS/375Nm on the Boxster GTS. While the former achieves a claimed top speed of 285kmph, the latter tops out at 280kmph. In both cars, the engine comes mated to a six-speed manual transmission as standard and a PDK gearbox as option. If driven with the optional PDK gearbox, the race to 100kmph from standstill takes 4.6s in the Cayman and 4.7s in the Boxster. Fuel efficiency figures are 13.3kmpl with the standard transmission and goes up to 14.6kmpl if the PDK transmission is installed.

Outside, the new Cayman GTS gets larger air intakes and the GTS-specific smoked daytime running lights and position lights built on LED technology. Bi?Xenon headlights including the Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS) are fitted as standard. The Porsches gets 10-spoke 20-inch Carrera S wheels as standard and 20-inch 911 Turbo Design titanium wheels as option. The LED taillights have smoked lens covers and it bodes well with the restyled posterior. A black finish is available as option to the 20-inch alloy wheels and the Bi-Xenon headlight assembly.

The handling dynamics of the GTS are further boosted by Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) and Sport Chrono pack which come as standard. The active suspension system allows the driver to modify the damper stiffness while the Chrono package enables the chassis to respond better under braking, acceleration or cornering by using dynamic engine mounts which stiffen under such conditions thus reducing the effects of mass transfer.

Building on the proven Boxster virtues of light weight, responsive handling and a charismatic flat-six engine, the GTS features an optimised version of the proven 3.4-litre engine which has been tuned to produce an additional 15 hp (11 kW). The Boxster GTS thus develops 330 hp (243 kW), and pulling power has also increased by ten newton metres to 370 Nm. Further emphasising the distinctive character of the GTS is the Sport Chrono package and Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), fitted as standard. These offer the driver the opportunity to not only modify the damper stiffness, but also subtly change the throttle characteristics of the engine. In conjunction with the optional Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) seven-speed double-clutch transmission, the Launch Control function engaged via the Sport Plus button - enables the Boxster GTS to accelerate from 0 - 62 mph in 4.7 seconds, 0.3 secs quicker than the standard Boxster S PDK. With the standard manual six-speed transmission, the GTS is the first Boxster to offer the potential to top the 174 mph (280 km/h) threshold.
