2014 Volkswagen Vento launched in India at Rs 7.44 lakh
Volkswagen India has launched the new Vento at a starting price of Rs 7.44 lakh ex-Mumbai. The updated Vento gets new dual-beam headlamps, body coloured mirrors and door handles as well as refreshed 15-inch wheels.
The Polo's three-spoke steering wheel makes its debut in the new Vento. It also has audio controls as well. There is a chrome outline in the dashboard and there is a two-tone theme for the upholstery.
The biggest change for the Vento, like in the Polo, has happened under the hood. The 1.5TDI engine replaces the older 1.6 diesel. This new engine makes 105PS of power and 250Nm of torque. It comes mated to a five-speed manual box or an optional seven-speed DSG. Volkswagen claims 20.34kmpl fuel efficiency from the diesel manual Vento and Rs 21.21kmpl for the DSG variant. The petrol in the meanwhile is the 1.2TSI and 1.6MPI . The former is offered exclusively with a DSG box and the latter with a manual.

| Volkswagen, Europe's largest carmaker, announces the launch of the new Vento, one of the most refined, well-built, safe and technologically advanced sedans available in India. To suit a wide range of requirements and driving preference, the new Vento is available with a range of four-cylinder engines 1.6 MPI, 1.2 TSI and 1.5 TDI powerplants, all of which offer an excellent blend of power, performance and fuel economy. In response to popular demand for advanced, refined diesel automatics, the new Vento 1.5 TDI is now available with Volkswagen's technologically advanced 7-Speed Dual-Clutch DSG automatic transmission, a feature that is unique in this segment. Volkswagen's 7-Speed DSG has two clutches; Clutch 1 handles odd-numbered gears, Clutch 2 handles even-numbered gears plus reverse gear. As a result of this sophisticated clutch management, there are no gaps in propulsive power and power delivery remains uninterrupted. The "lag" that is sometimes associated with conventional automatics is non-existent with the DSG. In addition to providing outstanding driving dynamics as explained above, Volkswagen's 7-Speed DSG, with its perfectly timed and perfectly executed gearshifts, also helps with improving fuel economy and lowering emissions. With closely-spaced ratios, the new Vento's DSG transmission makes the best possible use of Volkswagen's 1.5 TDI and 1.2 TSI engines' power delivery, and provides smooth, seamless acceleration at all speeds. The new Vento's 1.5-litre four-cylinder TDI turbo-diesel engine produces 103 horsepower and 250Nm of torque, which provides impressive performance on the road, while its fuel economy figure of 21.21kpl provides uncompromised efficiency. Other engines in the new Vento line-up are also similarly accomplished. The 1.2 TSI engine produces 103 horsepower and 175Nm of torque, and delivers 16.93kpl in terms of fuel economy. The 1.6 MPI engine produces 103 horsepower and 153Nm of torque, and returns 15.04kpl. Other changes on the new Vento include dual front airbags on all variants, redesigned 15-inch alloy wheels, and new, more powerful dual-beam headlamps. The new Vento also gets a flat-bottomed multi-function steering wheel with integrated controls for the car's entertainment system, footwell lights and Bluetooth telephony. New colours available for the Vento line-up include Toffee Brown and Night Blue.
