2016 Auto Expo highlights: Mahindra, Maruti, Renault and Chevrolet
Mahindra:
The showstopper of Mahindra's stall at the 2016 Auto Expo was the XUV Aero Concept. Based on the XUV500, this concept has been designed by Pininfarina and gets a driver side suicide door and a coupe-like rear similar to the BMW X6 and the Mercedes-Benz GLE 450AMG Coupe. The XUV Aero Concept is powered by a 2.2-litre mHawk engine which can produce 210PS and 410Nm of torque. Mahindra says that it can attain a 0-100kmph run in under six seconds.
Mahindra also showcased the Ssangyong Tivoli compact SUV which is expected to reach our shores this year. The e Verito also graced Mahindra's stand at the Auto Expo and is likely to reach showrooms by the end of March this year. Overall, the e20 Sport was one electric vehicle that attracted a fair amount of attention with its wide body kit and racing bucket seats. Apart from the sporty look and kit, it's electric motor generates 143PS and 180Nm and can hit 100kmph in 8 seconds.
Maruti Suzuki:
Maruti unveiled four models at the Auto Expo 2016. The new VitaraBrezza compact SUV was revealed first which gets powered by the proven 200 DDiS engine mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The new Baleno RS Concept was unveiled next which gets powered by a direct injection, 3-cylinder, 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.
The Ignis compact SUV concept too was showcased which is based on the iM-4 concept that was revealed at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. A limited edition of the S-Cross was on display as well which gets a few cosmetic changes but no mechanical updates.

Renault:
Renault unveiled the Kwid Climber Concept, the Duster facelift along with an AMT version, Eolab concept along with the Kwid 1.0 and it's AMT version. The Kwid Climber concept in a more practical form could possibly make it to our market in 2017. As expected, the Duster facelift gets a few cosmetic tweaks while the AMT transmission will most likely be offered only on the diesel variant. As the name suggests, the Kwid 1.0 is powered by a new 1.0-litre engine and it's Easy-R version gets an all-new 5-speed Automated Manual Transmission.

Chevrolet:
Chevrolet showcased the 2016 Camaro and the Corvette Stingray at the 2016 Auto Expo which understandably attracted quite a bit of attention. Also on display was the Beat Essentia which is a sub-four metre sedan that showcases GM's new design language. The Beat Activ concept gets body cladding all around and looks like a more rugged version of the Beat hatchback. Both the Essentia and the Beat Activ are based on the current generation Beat's M300 platform. Both are expected to launch in India in 2017.
