2016 Sao Paulo Motor Show: 2017 Ford Ka Trail unveiled
Ford has taken the wraps off the new Ford Ka Trail, which essentially is the crossover variant of the Ford Figo hatchback. The car is expected to go on sale in India sometime next year. If it does, the Figo Crossover will go up against the Hyundai i20 Active, Volkswagen Cross Polo, Toyota Etios Cross and the recently launched Fiat Urban Cross.
The Ka Trail gets typical crossover bits like plastic cladding around the wheel arches and faux skid plates upfront and at the rear. The car gets a new honeycomb grille which is finished in gloss black. The headlamps get a smoked effect, and the housing around the fog lamps is blacked out too. The ORVM casings door handles and roof rails are finished in matte grey, and they look pretty good. Additionally, there's a grey stripe that runs from the front to the rear door. The Trail decal is printed on this stripe, further distinguishing it from the standard car.
It does appear that Ford has raised the suspension to increase ground clearance. The show car has 15-inch alloys, instead of the 14-inch wheels on the standard Ka (Figo). The cabin features new part-leather seats with contrasting stitching and sport pedals. Besides these, the layout and materials around the cabin are similar.
Internationally, the car is expected to get the 1.5-litre Sigma, 4-cylinder petrol engine that develops 110PS. If Ford gets the car to India, expect it to continue using the same set of engines as in the Figo hatchback. The Ka Trail is expected to go on sale in Brazil early next year.

Crossovers have been widely popular for the rugged looks and increased ground clearance. That allows these cars to be driven over trails and broken patches without having the worry of bottoming out. These cars also tend to offer better ride quality than their hatchback siblings.
