Skoda has taken the wraps off the all-new, third-generation Superb in Prague. Moving into its third generation, the Superb is now based on Volkswagen's latest MQB platform. The new Superb wears an all-new design that takes inspiration from the Vision C concept and is flooded with angular surfaces all around - the most notable being the cuts under the headlights, the lines on the bonnet, the detailing inside the headlight and taillight units and the sharp shoulder line that is common across the entire range now. The typical Skoda elements like the imposing bow-tie grille and the C-shaped motif in the tail lights are instant attention grabbers, but what separates the new Superb from its predecessors is the coupé-ish silhouette. Adding to the effect are the slim pillars and large wheel arches. Despite the sleek lines and the receding roofline, the Superb is still a large saloon and makes its size evident no matter what angle you look at it from. The car sits on a 80mm longer wheelbase than its predecessor but shaves a good 61mm off the overhangs.

It features new infotainment systems based on the Volkswagen MIB interface and the top-spec units incorporate new smartphone-integration technologies like Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto. The range-topping trims will ship with a panoramic sunroof. The umbrella-in-the-door, a much talked about feature in the Superb, is now upgraded with two umbrellas - one in each rear door. The rear seats get a tablet holder now and the glove compartment has enough volume to store one of them. All the seats expect the driver's can be folded down to increase cargo space. Overall, the cabin is now wider, while the boot space is up by 30-litres to 625l.

The Superb has been know to offer A6 level of luxury and the new one seems build on that. The car now boasts a variety of assistance techs like adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, traffic jam assist, emergency braking assist, crew protection assist, traffic sign recognition and attention assist. Other safety tech comprises of seven airbags, blind spot warning, ESP and ABS.

The Superb's engine line remains more or less similar to the outgoing model, but they are now cleaner and boast better fuel economy - as much as a 30 per cent improvement.

The 2016 Skoda Superb will make its commercial debut by June 2016.
