Porsche first unveiled the new Turbo and the Turbo S at the Detroit Motor Show. The exterior design has not received a drastic change but new projector headlights with LED daytime running lights. The front bumper too has got an update in the form of a large central air dam to gulp in more air with the new motor producing more power than the previous iteration. Porsche has also thrown in dark accents on the air dam which makes it look sportier than before. The alloys too have been updated with a new design; different models get separate patterns. The rear decklid also gets a new design for the cooling vanes which are said to improve air induction for the engine.

Inside the new Porsche, the understated yet marvellous theme has been retained. The range now comes equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system which can also be operated via voice assist or conventional rotary pushbutton controls. The touchscreen has a proximity sensor that activates with hand movements and displays the relevant contents in the menu. The PCM also helps pair iPhone to the system as well as comes with Apple CarPlay.

One of the most important factors that makes the Posche an enthusiast's dream machine is its engine. The new Turbo and Turbo S get a spike of 20PS from their 3.8-litre twin-turbo motor. Porsche claims that the power output has been raised by modifying the intake ports in the cylinder heads and new fuel injectors that allow higher fuel pressure as well as a new pair of turbos with larger impellers for the Turbo S. The Porsche 911 Turbo S now makes 580PS and 749Nm while the Turbo makes 540PS and 708Nm. The Turbo S also gets a 200rpm higher redline of 7,200rpm.

Porsche claims to be the only manufacturer using turbos with variable turbine geometry in a petrol engine. The base Turbo breaches the 3 seconds mark for the 0-100kmph run, taking just 2.9 seconds before hitting a top speed of 319kmph. The Porsche 911 Turbo S meanwhile takes just 2.8 seconds to hit the ton while top speed is now an incredible 330kmph. The Carrera series is powered by a 3.0-litre motor that puts out 370PS/450Nm for the standard and 420PS/500Nm for the S variant. The entire range comes mated to Porche's PDK dual-clutch gearbox as standard.
