2018 Porsche 911 Carrera T is lighter and better than before

For Porsche enthusiasts, the model 911 T will sound familiar as it was introduced in the 60s as a base model to succeed the 912. The T in the model name stands for Touring. While in its 2018 avatar, the Porsche 911 Carrera T returns in its newest and most modern addition to the 911 Carrera family, it still retains the characteristics of the classic, claims the German car manufacturer. The 2018 Porsche 911 T will hit US dealerships in March 2018 at a base price of $1.02 lakh (Rs 66.47 lakh, excluding import duties). The 2018 Porsche 911 T is no longer a base model. It comes equipped with a twin-turbocharged, 3.0-litre flat-six cylinder engine that puts out 370PS and generates 460Nm of torque. Porsche offers a transmission choice between seven-speed manual or Porsche's PDK dual-clutch, that can be mated to this motor. The company claims that the 2018 911 T can reach close to 100kmph in 4.3 seconds, making it 0.1 second quicker than the regular 911.

While in the automatic, these timings further reduce to 4 seconds, due to the quick shifting nature of the PDK unit. The manual version has a claimed top speed of 292kmph whereas the automatic has a slightly lower top speed at 290kmph. The 2018 Porsche 911 T also gets other mechanical updates in the form of sport suspension that reduces the ride height by 0.4 inches. Then there is the shorter gear throw of the lever and the rear-axle steering which can be opted for as an optional package. The 2018 Porsche 911 T has also gone through a weight management programme with the use of lightweight glass and fabric loops instead of standard door handles. All of this has made the 2018 Porsche 911 T weigh 1,425 kg, the lightest in the Carrera range.

To make the 2018 Porsche 911 T look more distinct, it gets four-way electrically adjustable Sport Seats Plus with seat centers in Sport-Tex. The headrests get black 911 logo with the optional full bucket seats. The GT Sport Steering wheel with leather rim, also standard, comes fitted with a switch for driving mode selection. The Carrera T interior package comes in racing yellow, guards red or GT silver.
