2020 BMW 5 Series facelift revealed
BMW has showcased the mid-cycle update to the BMW 5 Series. The sedan now comes with a fresher look and more features inside and out. Engines options and other mechanicals have remained largely unchanged.
The front of the new 5 Series now bears resemblance to the smaller 3 Series. There's the new BMW signature L-shaped DRLs, while the Laser lighting option is available optionally. There's a larger and wider front grille as well along with a simpler design for the front bumper. Further along there is a new look to the alloy wheels while the tail-lamps get the same L-shaped 3D effect we've seen on newer BMWs. Lastly, the rear bumper too has been reworked, chromed exhaust surrounds have been added here too. The M-Sport version has also been redesigned to look a bit sharper than before.
On the inside, the new 5 Series features the latest Drive infotainment system. The 12.3-inch screen is now available as an option, while the fully digital instrument cluster has been added. Other than this, there is are more extensive climate controls, a new steering wheel and slight different materials on the dash. Significantly, Android Auto is now available as an option. International versions will also get a more extensive suite of driver assistance tech.
The engine options for the 5 Series remain unchanged, but they now come with 48V mild-hybrid assistance and the entire line-up now meets Euro-6d-temp regulations. This means that in India, we should continue to get the 520d 2.0-litre diesel engine with 190PS/400 Nm and the 530d inline-six diesel with 290PS/650 Nm. The 530i makes 255PS and 350 Nm from a 2.0-litre four-cyl;inder petrol.
The 2020 BMW 5 Series will launch internationally in July 2020. Expect an India launch later in 2020 or by early 2021.
