2020 Land Rover Defender SUV spotted testing in India
An OVERDRIVE reader recently spotted the 2020 Land Rover Defender undergoing testing under camouflage around Bangalore. The SUV's identity is fairly evident thanks to the geometric inset LED tail lamps visible on either end of the side-hinged doors.
Further, this seems to be LWB Land Rover Defender 110. We don't expect the shorter three-door version here in the near future. The spy images also show some of this 4x4's unique design touches like the flat roof and a squarish glass area below which sits on a completely flat side-profile. A noticeable difference is that this version seems to be missing the boot-mounted spare-wheel but the final production-spec car for India will most likely be available with it.
There are two petrol and one diesel engines from JLR's Ingenium line-up are available with the Defender globally. The P300 is powered by 2.0-litre 4-cylinder with 300PS and 400Nm while the P400 uses a 3.0-litre inline-six paired with a supercharger and 48V mild-hybrid tech. The outputs for this are 404PS and 550Nm. The diesel versions are the D200 and the D240. Both make 430Nm and 200PS and 240PS respectively. We expect the P300 and the D200 motors to be available here, to begin with.
We think Jaguar Land Rover will debut the new Defender in India during the 2020 Auto Expo. The Defender could be priced between the Discovery Sport and the Discovery when it comes here. The Defender made its international debut last month at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
