2021 Skoda Rapid Matte edition details leaked ahead of launch

Skoda India recently confirmed that the Skoda Rapid Matte edition will launch soon. This cosmetically updated version of the Rapid was first shown at the 2020 Auto Expo but no set timeline for its launch had been provided then, but Skoda India now seems to have chosen the festive season to bring this car to market.

The leaked document suggests that Skoda has decided to ditch the red highlights and the dual-tone interiors from the show car for a completely blacked-out look. The 2021 Skoda Rapid Matte Edition is expected to get a matte grey paint job, gloss black exterior enhancements to the grille, 16-inch alloy wheels, front lip, rear spoiler and outer mirrors. The interiors should be done up in an all-grey theme with Alcantar seat covers and a flat-bottomed steering wheel.

The features list should mirror those of the higher-spec Monte Carlo trims with LED DRLs with projector lighting, climate control, cruise control, an 8-inch Android touchscreen infotainment, cruise control, power adjusting and folding mirrors, one-touch operation for all windows, auto headlamps and wipers. Safety features should include four airbags, ABS, ESC and a hill-hold function for the AT variants.

The Skoda Rapid Matte Edition will remain mechanically identical to the rest of the Rapid line-up. The Rapid is powered by the 1.0-litre TSI turbo-petrol, as seen on the Skoda Kushaq, making a similar 110PS and 175Nm. This motor was paired with a six-speed manual or torque converter automatic. Prices for the base Skoda Rapid Rider start from Rs 7.79 lakh with the Matte Edition expected to top the line-up with a Rs 20,000 to 30,000 premium over the Rs 13.29 lakh for the Monte Carlo.
