The 2023 BMW M4 CSL is a performance-oriented variant of the popular BMW 4 Series that blends racetrack engineering with a sporty appearance. It makes its premiere as the automaker's M program celebrates its 50th anniversary.

CSL stands for "Competition, Sport, and Lightweight," all of which are trademarks of BMW cars of this grade. The M4 CSL is limited to 1000 units, with manufacturing starting in July.

Under the hood, a 3-litre twin-turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine with an 8-speed automated gearbox delivers 550PS and 650 Nm of torque. The 0-100 kmph time for the rear-wheel-drive BMW M4 CSL is 3.7 seconds, which is 0.2 seconds faster than the rear-wheel-drive BMW M4 Competition but 0.2 seconds slower than the all-wheel-drive M4 Competition.  The CSL sprints from 0 to 200 km/h in 10.7 seconds.

The BMW M4 CSL's engine uses M TwinPower Turbo technology, which was first seen in the M4 GT3 race vehicle. The geometry of the cast aluminium sections between the spring strut towers and the front end has been altered, and there are unique engine mounts. Unique camber settings, dampers, auxiliary springs, and anti-roll bars are also included, with the CSL sitting 8mm lower than the Competition.

The M4 CSL comes standard with forged light-alloy wheels that measure 19 inches in front and 20 inches in back and are finished in Frozen Brooklyn Grey metallic.

The use of carbon fibre in a number of laces makes the CSL 109 kg lighter than the regular BMW M4. The car also uses a titanium rear silencer to save weight.

Inside, the M Carbon full bucket seats are 24

kg lighter than the normal seats in the M4 Competition and have a set backrest angle. Seats with a six-point belt system and removable head restraints are available.

The M4 CSL retains its 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, with automatic climate control (dual-zone available), frontal collision warning, and lane departure warning as standard safety features. Optional features include BMW's Driving Assistant and Parking Assistant systems.
