All-new 2017 Maruti Dzire launched in India at Rs 5.45 lakh

Maruti Suzuki has launched the 2017 Dzire in India at Rs 5.45 lakh, ex-Delhi. There are 14 trims to choose from amongst the two variants (petrol and diesel). There are also six colours to choose from. The new Maruti Dzire drops the Swift moniker from its name. It also sheds off 105kg from the overall weight. This new car uses Suzuki's lightweight Heartect platform that also underpins the Baleno. Maruti claims to have made it structurally more rigid and says that the car is now offset as well as side-crash compliant. It also harps about the pedestrian protection designed bonnet.

2017 Swift Dzire Launch

The car looks quite different from the Swift Dzire it replaces. We have seen this trend being started with the recently refreshed Xcent. The new Maruti Dzire has a wide grille flanked by LED projector headlamps, chrome smattering on the bumper, 15-inch diamond-cut alloys and LED tail lamps. The car is now wider by 40mm, whereas the front shoulder room has been increased by 20mm and the rear shoulder room has gone up by 30mm. There is also an increase of 55mm with respect to the rear legroom. Maruti has also increased the boot space to 378 litres, an improvement of 62 litres from the older car.

The cabin boasts a new interface, similar to the European-spec Swift. This includes a touchscreen infotainment system that supports Android Auto, MirrorLink as well as Apple CarPlay. The top trims get push-button start, electrically adjustable ORVMs and rear AC vents. Maruti has made ABS and dual airbags as standard across the range on the new Dzire. ISOFIX child seat mounting points are also standard.

The engine options are the familiar 1.2-litre 84PS/113Nm petrol and the 75PS/190Nm 1.3-litre diesel. Both these engines can be optioned with a 5-speed manual or AMT. Maruti says that they have improved the driveability of the engines, and in the process the fuel efficiency too has gone up. In fact, the diesel Dzire claims to have the industry-leading passenger vehicle fuel-efficiency number of 28.4kmpl, beating even its stablemate the Ciaz which comes with a smart hybrid assist system. The petrol, in the meanwhile, delivers 22kmpl, an improvement of 5.5 per cent over the outgoing car. The new Maruti Dzire goes up against the Honda Amaze, Tata Tigor, Hyundai Xcent and the Ford Aspire. We will have the full details on how it is to drive on May 24. Keep watching this space.
