Anindith Reddy wins the 2016 Euro JK16 Championship
The final round of the 19th JK Tyre FMSCI National Racing Championship concluded today at the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida. The action across all categories was incredible and emotions were high as the races today decided the championships in all classes.
Euro JK 16 podium
Anindith Reddy was crowned the champion in the Euro JK16 Class, and the youngster put up a stunning display of calm and collected driving. After yesterday's races, Anindith had built a nine-point lead in the championship to arch rivals Nayan Chatterjee and Ananth Shanmugham.
For the first race of the day, the reverse grid came into effect. This put Anindith on P6, however this did little to unsettle him. As the lights went out, Reddy began chasing his rivals. He slowly began picking up places with each passing lap. "I had a good start and managed to get ahead of the car in front of me right away. That made it easy for me," he said.
Nayan Chatterjee suffered a major blow as his car suffered a technical snag on Lap 3, putting him out of contention for the championship. Ananth Shanmugham too suffered another setback as a nudge from the back, saw his car spin out at the exit of C1.
While his rivals were struggling, Anindith managed to get into the lead with a few laps to go. From then on, all he had to do was put in clean, consistent laps. In the end he crossed the finish line, with one hand firmly on the championship trophy.
In Race 2 Anindith was in a class of his own. His driving was the true mark of a champion. When he was relegated to P2 for a few laps, despite starting on pole, he refused to settle for that position. The determination to clinch the championship with a win was evident in his driving, and he managed to grab P1, a few laps before the chequered flag. The atmosphere in the pits was electric as he rolled into the winners' circle. " It was a tough battle, and I cherish this victory," said a jubilant and relieved Anindith.
As for the second spot in the championship, Ananth Shanmugham's fast and consistent driving saw him secure the place. Nayan Chatterjee had to settle for third. The Mumbai lad's car has suffered mechanical issues throughout the season. " It would have been a different story otherwise," he said.
JK LGB Formula 4 podium
In the LGB Formula 4 Class, Vishnu Prasad finally managed to win the championship. It's the only title that evaded him, until now, and it goes without saying that he was quite ecstatic. After yesterday's stupendous performance, Vishnu almost had the title in the bag, but that did not make him complacent in today's race. He was on the charge right from the word go. As usual, Raghul Rangaswamy was on his tail, keeping him honest. The duo were trading places, lap after lap, and it looked as if Vishnu would have to settle for P2. However, Vishnu never gave up and kept piling the pressure on Raghul. At one stage, Raghul succumbed to the pressure and ran wide, while entering the parabolica. Vishnu streaked into the lead and from then on it was a walk in the park for him.
After winning the race, the Chennai lad received a rousing welcome in the pits. Meco Motorsports head and Vishnu's mentor, Akbar Ebrahim was elated on seeing his boy win. In fact, his team grabbed the top three positions in the last race. Vishnu was seen celebrating with his mechanics as soon as he got out of the car, thankful that they built him an excellent car throughout the year.
JK Touring Cars podium - Deepak Paul Chinnappa, first and by C Rajaram second
The JK Touring Cars race was once again won by Deepak Chinnappa. Rajaram C crossed the line in P2, followed by M Sivaramakrishnan.
The JK SBK 600cc race was action packed as a number of riders were engaged in thrilling battles. In the end Deepak Ravikumar emerged victorious.
JK SBK 600 podium
The final race of the day was the JK SBK 1000cc and the drama began even before the start. Rajni Krishnan, who had retired from yesterday's race due to a technical glitch in his Kawasaki Ninja ZX10R, faced an uphill task of readying his bike for today's race.
Sadly, there was no solution to the problem and he could not get to the Grid. Simranjeet Singh, who won yesterday's race started on Pole, with Sandesh S and Dilip Rogger on P2 and P3 respectively.
JK SBK 1000cc podium
At the beginning, Simranjeet, aboard the Yamaha YZF- R1 pulled away into the lead, with Sandesh in hot pursuit. However, as the race progressed, he began facing a problem with his arm. He was slower to brake and get out of corners, which allowed Sandesh to catch him. Sandesh on the Yamaha YZF-R1 M was waiting to pass Simranjeet and made his move into the lead with a few laps to go. He crossed the finish line in P1 with a gap of over two seconds to Simranjeet. Aakash Rajshakha finished third.
