Auto China 2018: Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury concept showcased
The 2018 Beijing Motor show saw the premiere of the Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury concept, that's quite a long name. But seems justified when you look at the images of this unique looking concept. This crossover between a sedan and an SUV is Mercedes-Maybach's answer to the likes of the uber premium Bentley Bentayga and the upcoming Rolls-Royce Cullinan.
The design of this ultimate luxury concept might not be very traditional SUVish but not that Mercedes-Maybach had claimed to make one in the first place. The front is as imposing as it can get with a really large aluminum-finished grille paired with sleek LED lights. The bumper looks rather simple with large air scoops. A performance-spec luxury version to accompany the regular? Perhaps. To the side, the concept features 24-inch turbine styled alloy wheels that add to the overall appeal of the design. The impressive front and bold side are surely among the best aspects of this concept design. However, it is when you look at the rear profile, the design looks a bit off as the boot seems to have been inspired by the S-Class. The lights and the overall profile looks a tad too plain for it to look any special.
The interior of the Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury concept comes equipped with Nappa leather, premium fabrics along with a host of customizable options like the use of ebony and rose gold on trims. The 12.3-inch screen on the concept is reminiscent of the one that you see on the S-Class. Also seen in the images are fine China teapot and cups, guess a more region-specific addition.
"The design of the crossover, based on an exclusive high-end saloon and an SUV, follows the philosophy of Sensual Purity. The show car combines the comfort and typical strengths of both body styles. These include the raised seating position and the athletic looks. The Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury is conceived as an electric vehicle with four compact permanent-magnet synchronous motors and fully variable all-wheel drive." states an official statement.
The concept is powered by four electric motors running on an 80 kWh battery pack. The four motors generate an impressive 730PS and is believed to have a driving range of 500km. Mercedes-Maybach has not revealed any details of when would this Ultimate Luxury concept take the production guise but we reveal that should happen in the near future considering the ever-increasing popularity of SUVs in the world.
