Bajaj-Kawasaki partnership to enter Indonesia in 2013
Bajaj announced that they would also be entering the Indonesian motorcycle market mid 2013 with a Bajaj-Kawasaki partnership. The product that would be leading the way into Indonesia would be the Pulsar 200NS. This will see Bajaj motorcycles being sold from Kawasaki dealerships across Indonesia.
This business model has seen success in the Philippines with the Bajaj-Kawasaki partnership having garnered 45% percent of the Philippine market with Bajaj sales account to 35 per cent while Kawasaki sales account for 10 per cent, making them market leaders. The Indonesian market also accounted for sales of over 1,00,000 units in 2011.
Speaking at the press conference Rajiv Bajaj said that their plan was to focus all their efforts on motorcycles and to continue to improve on the products that they offer rather than expanding their portfolio. This partnership benefits Kawasaki too in that they are able to focus on their strength i.e. making large capacity motorcycles while smaller capacity technology development is taken care of by Bajaj. He also went on to add that success in this venture would also pave the way into the Brazilian market, a market that is worth as much as two million motorcycles annually.
