Bentley readies Continental GT V8 S for Frankfurt 2013
Bentley has revealed a more powerful 'S' version of the Continental GT V8. The sporty Continental GT V8 S will be available as a coupe and convertible model. The new Continental GT V8 S Coupe and Convertible will have their world premier at the 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show on September 10, 2013.
The GT V8 S clearly looks to bridge the performance gap between the entry level GT V8 and the aggressive GT V12. The GT V8 features an 8-cylinder twinturbo 4.0-litre engine that dishes 507PS and 660Nm of torque. The 'S' creates a small power bump and delivers 528PS and 680Nm of peak torque. The twin-turbo V8 S comes mated to a close-ratio 8-speed automatic transmission from ZF, which has an 'S' mode that tweaks throttle response and shifts faster. Drive is distributed to all four wheels. A high-pressure direct-injection system, low-friction bearings, advanced cooling, and an efficient turbocharger layout are other aspects of the V8 S engine. The Continental GT V8 S models manage a 0-100 in about 4.5-4.7 seconds and achieve top speeds of around 308kmph.
The V8 S has the same aluminium double-wishbone front and multi-link rear self-levelling air suspension, although gets a revised tune with increased spring rates, revising damping, stiffened bushes, anti-roll bars, and a 10mm-lower rideheight.
The tweaked steering, continuous damping control and electronic stability control systems help improve precision and feedback, handling and reduced intervention. The new front splitter, side sills and rear diffuser provide aerodynamic improvement and reduce front-end lift thereby providing stability at high speeds. Black gloss radiator grille, figure-eight exhaust outlets, 20" alloys, red brake calipers and 'V8 S' badging are other aesthetic addons.
