BMW 760Li High Security launched in India

BMW has launched an armoured version of the 7 Series called the 760Li High Security in India. The car is certified to the international standard guideline - BRV (Bullet Resistant Vehicle) 2009 or VR7. It also meets the highest requirements of ballistic protection. This means that it can even withstand the AK-47. Even the Indian Prime Minister travels in one of these.

BMW has also made changes to the chassis, suspension and dampers to take into account the increased weight. To ensure confidentiality, BMW will provide exclusive consultancy and personalised sales and service support. These cars will be serviced by special certified garages only. BMW will also provide driver training programs specifically for the High Security version.

Audi also has the A8L Security which has been tested to VR7 standards. The Audi even complies with VR9/10 in certain areas of armouring. The recently launched M-Guard with the Mercedes ML-Class SUV can withstand fire only upto VR4 (upto .44 Magnum).

The security concept was developed parallel to the production model and the integration of safety components is an integral part of the vehicle production process at BMW's Dingolfing plant. Specific chassis components are perfectly adapted to the increase in weight due to the sedans' armour plating. Hence, reinforced suspension, dampers and suspension strut top mountings are part of the model-specific component range. This approach ensures finely-tuned vehicle performance characteristics that cannot be achieved by retrofitted armour plating.
