BMW Motorrad begins testing 2020 G 310 GS and G 310 R BSVI in India
BMW Motorrad has started testing the 2020 iterations of its entry-level offerings, the 2020 G 310 R and the G 310 GS in India. The launch of both the motorcycles, we believe, has been pushed by some weeks due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. Both these motorcycles were already spotted doing international testing somewhere in Europe. While there are going to be a list of updates in terms of aesthetics and features, the most important one of them all will be the BSVI compliant single cylinder 313cc engine.
The highlight of the 2020 G 310 R will be the all-LED lighting, with a redesigned headlight assembly that seems larger and also gets slimmer side panels.
Starting with the naked roadster, the 2020 G 310 R. As seen from the images below, we don't expect the updated design to come with any changes in the dimensions as it retains its inspiration from the larger S 1000 R, considering this is a facelift. The highlight will be the all-LED lighting, with a redesigned headlight assembly that seems larger and also gets slimmer side panels. The instrumental cluster design, beefy gold USD forks and the five-spoke alloys have been retained from the previous offering. What looks to have been changed or updated are the side panels and the tank design, where in the tank features sharper lines while the panels have been extended to sync with the tank design. Further, the engine and the frame that holds the rear pegs sports a new black shade instead of the brighter aluminium seen in the present model, that could also be seen on these test motorcycles.
The tank design and the side panels have been left unchanged. The rest of the design of the 2020 G 310 GS has been carried over from the previous model.
The 2020 BMW G 310 GS, which has a larger profile than the roadster, gets similar updates in the styling department, wherein the highlight is the all-LED headlight and the sleek turn-indicators. In its present form, the liquid-cooled, single-cylinder 4-stroke engine with a displacement of 313cc makes 34PS at 9,500 rpm and generates 28 Nm at 7,500 rpm, in both the G 310 R and the the G 310 GS. In case of the 310 RR, the BSVI update did not alter the displacement of the engine or the performance numbers, which could be the same for the 2020 BMWs. The exhaust unit on these motorcycles have been updated, along with a larger catalytic converter, which we believe will be neatly hidden.

Presently, the BMW G 310 R and the BMW G 310 GS are priced at Rs 2.99 lakh and Rs 3.49 lakh, ex-showroom respectively. With the tweaks in the design and additional features such as colour TFT display, ride-by-wire tech with slipper clutch and updated exhaust design, it is obvious to expect both the motorcycles to be priced at a higher premium. A similar set of revisions made the Apache RR 310 more expensive by Rs 12,000. However, it would be interesting to see if BMW Motorrad pulls out a surprise and drops the prices with all these updates, to make the 310s more appealing and competitive than the KTMs.
