EICMA 2016: India-bound BMW G 310 GS unveiled
BMW Motorrad has unveiled the adventure tourer version of the G 310 R at the EICMA 2016. The BMW G 310 GS retains the same 313cc single-cylinder water-cooled engine from the G 310 R. It makes 34PS of power at 9,500rpm and 28Nm of torque at 7,500rpm. The engine is coupled to a 6-speed gearbox. It gets LED tail lamps, stainless steel exhaust and ABS as standard. Optional accessories will include heated grips, LED indicators and a 12V power outlet, among others.
BMW says that the G 310 GS can attain a top speed of 143kmph. With standard equipment, the motorcycle tips the scales at 175.5 kilograms and has a seat height of 835mm. BMW will also offer optional seats as accessories which can lower the seat height to 820mm or increase it to 850mm. The fuel tank of the BMW G 310 GS can hold up to 11 litres.
The BMW G 310 GS is the third motorcycle to be developed as a part of the collaboration between TVS and BMW. As per the agreement, TVS will manufacture the BMW motorcycles at its facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. Compared to the G 310 R, the G 310 GS gets a higher riding chassis and longer suspension. It is a more effective tourer with higher ground clearance. It will be a nice motorcycle for highway use and not really an off-road one.
Initially, BMW Motorrad was expected to launch the G 310 R first in India followed by the G 310 GS. However, it now appears that both motorcycles will enter our country together. The BMW G 310 R and the G 310 GS are expected to be launched in India sometime around April next year.
