European Skoda Rapid Spaceback unveiled
Skoda has officially announced the European Rapid Spaceback a niche body style they're exploring beyond hatchbacks, estates and sedans. The car will make its global premier at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. The Euro Rapid, however, should not be confused with the Indian Rapid sedan, which is based on a totally different platform.
The Spaceback comes with the 1.6-litre petrol and diesel variants
The car will be available with options of four petrol and two diesel engines in the power band ranging between 75PS and 122PS, just like the sedan. The 1.6-litre petrol engine in the Spaceback makes 104PS power and 150Nm of torque, and a 1.6-litre diesel that makes 104PS power and 250Nm torque. Skoda says that in the Greenline variant, the Spaceback delivers a fuel efficiency of 26kmpl and has Co2 emissions of less than 99g/km.
The Spaceback comes with front, side and head airbags
Even though the Spaceback measures 180mm less than the sedan, the wheelbase stands at 2,602 mm. The Spaceback comes with front, side and head airbags, height-adjustable three-point safety belts with pre-tensioners and height-adjustable head restraints. Xenon headlights, tyre pressure control, fog-lights with corner function or the 'hill-hold control' assistant are optional.
"The new Skoda Rapid Spaceback is a milestone for Skoda. It means that we are entering the strategically important segment of compact hatchback models. The Rapid Spaceback is a great addition to this class in that it combines Skoda's good practical characteristics with the popular hatchback shape. Sporting the new Skoda design, the Rapid Spaceback has a fresh, dynamic and individual appearance. It is a compact car with a sporty chic, spacious and practical, ideal for young people and families," said Winfried Vahland, CEO, Skoda.
