Lewis Hamilton will go into the 2016 United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas, with an advantage over his team-mate Nico Rosberg. Hamilton qualified on pole, with a timing of 1m 34.000s, pipping Rosberg to the head of the grid. Rosberg had to stay content with second on the grid, two-tenths behind his team-mate and title rival. Hamilton could potentially win  the race from pole, which also gives him a psychological advantage over Rosberg in their battle for the 2016 drivers' championship title.

Behind the Mercedes lock-out of the front row, are the two Red Bull Racing drivers, with Daniel Ricciardo getting ahead of team-mate Max Verstappen. Ferrari then locked out the third row, with Kimi Raikkonen ahead of Sebastian Vettel.

Seventh place on the grid went to Force India's Nico Hulkenberg, with Valtteri Bottas and Felipe Massa taking eighth and ninth place for Williams. Tenth on the grid went to Carlos Sainz Jr in the Toro Rosso.
