Image Gallery: Swift ICOTY Drive - Exploring Ongole
In our previous post, we told you how Maruti Suzuki celebrated the Swift's much-deserved hat-trick at the ICOTY awards in epic style with a one-of-a-kind road trip that panned across the country. We at OVERDRIVE chose to pitch in for the leg that would extend from Ongole in Andhra Pradesh to Chennai in Tamil Nadu as a part of the GPS artwork that was to be created to celebrate the Swift's victory. Just the way the Swift is more fun than most other hatchbacks out there, road trips too are more fun than other means of travel. For starters, they allow you to explore a lot more. We got a chance to do just that! Here are a few snapshots from our time in Ongole.
Ongole, situated in the state of Andhra Pradesh, is a temple-city that is on the radar of many pilgrims who visit Tirupati Balaji
Our Swift was sporty not only in intent, but also in its colour
And with its ICOTY livery is attracted even more attention as we drove through the narrow lanes of Ongole
Ongole has some extremely busy roads too, but the Swift zips through it all
The Swift has great visibility from its large glasshouse, so tackling congested city roads isn't much of a worry
Ongole has over 15 temples that are peppered around the city
The temples attract a lot of pilgrims and tourists all year along, and yet the road tripping Swift was the centre of attraction wherever we went
The coconut-hawkers in Ongole pack coconut water in road trip friendly pet bottles. The Swift's door pads took two bottles each, ensuring that we didn't run out of this tasty beverage for long
The Swift is one of the most loved hatchbacks in India and similarly, cricket is the most loved game in the country. Ongole is home to the CSR Sharma cricket ground that recorded the first ever triple-century by a wicket keeper in a Ranji match
Ongole is also famous for the Ongole Cattle - one of the strongest and healthiest cattle breeds from India. Our raging bull in red is no different, with its HEARTECT platform that makes it stronger, safer and ecologically healthier than most of its peers
- We caught our first glimpse of the Ongole bulls around sunrise, by the beach, as we were about to flag-off our journey towards Chennai. Head over to the next image gallery in this three-part series for snapshots from
