This is the second time that Ford has shown the world that bigger is not always better. The 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine has done it again, winning "Engine of the Year" in the sub 1-litre and new engine category. Currently, Ford is the third manufacturer to have received this award back to back in the fabled 15-year history of the award ceremony. The 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine, which is small enough to fit in an airplane's overhead bin, achieved the highest recorded rating from 87 automobile journalists from across the world. The engine mates variable valve timing, turbocharging and direct fuel injection to present a delectable power package which can range anywhere between 75 to 125PS, depending on the state of tune.

Ford has confirmed plans of doubling production of the EcoBoost engine at its facility in Cologne, Germany. Ford Europe aims to triple the production of the vehicles fitted with the 1.0L engine to 480,000 by 2015. As of now, the small engine does duty in various cars like the C-Max, Focus and Grand C-Max. In the near future it is expected to power bigger cars like the Transit Connect, Transit Courier, Tourneo Connect and Tourneo Courier. The Mondeo will also be powered by this engine. In India, the 1.0-litre EcoBoost will be offered in the EcoSport and then later on to other cars.
