Ghost Series II unveiled in China
No we're not talking about a revamp of the 1990 Demi Moore starrer luxury carmakers Roll-Royce recently revealed the revamped version of the iconic Ghost at the Chengdu Motor Show.
Series II has been re-designed with the aim of carrying forward the Ghost legacy, albeit with some subtle upgrades, which include redone LED headlamps surrounded by daytime running lights, re-sculpted bumpers and fresh chrome inserts on the front air intakes. Details on the bonnet include a Wake Channel, which is a tapered line that is supposed to be reminiscent of a jet's vapour trail.
Inside, the car gets on-board Wi-Fi, Satellite Aided Transmission and updated navigation systems along with a bespoke audio. Going by the media banter from Rolls-Royce, these features are ideal for Chinese entrepreneurs who comprise the target market for this car.
According to Giles Taylor, director of design at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, "As a design statement, Rolls-Royce Ghost Series II continues to transcend time. This is ensured by the deft treatment of features such as the new headlights, the new Wake Channel on the bonnet and surfacing that lend the car a more dynamic, purposeful stance and hint at the cutting edge technology inside. I am very pleased with the overall sense of design harmony."
As for why these features are only supposed appeal to businessmen and women in China, only Rolls-Royce can tell. We in India could totally do with cars that leave behind a delicious waft trail as they zoom past, while providing stellar connectivity to everyone on-board we ain't afraid of no ghost. A tapered 'wake channel' on the bonnet, emanating from the Spirit of Ecstasy, evokes the sight of a jet's vapour trail or wake of a fast luxury yacht and hints at the car's dynamism. Subtle re-sculpting of Ghost's bumpers creates a stronger stance and a sense of extra width and height, whilst the contemporary aesthetic is further enhanced with the addition of chrome inserts to the front air intakes, which now feed more air cooling to the front brakes. In addition, the famous waft line has been re-designed on Ghost Series II to lean further forwards emphasising the car's effortless dynamism.
