Hero Splendor iSmart 110 launched in India at Rs 53,300

Hero MotoCorp Limited has just launched the new Splendor iSmart 110 which gets a new chassis and engine. The Hero Splendor iSmart 110 is priced at Rs 53,300 (ex-showroom, Delhi). Hero first showcased the Splendor iSmart 110 at the Auto Expo 2016.

It is powered by a 110cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine which makes 9.4PS at 7500rpm and a maximum torque of 9Nm at 5500rpm. Hero MotoCorp says that apart from being BS-IV compliant, the new engine has low friction parts and the motorcycle accelerates from 0-60kmph in 7.45 seconds. The company says that new engine is a ground-up effort and offers 9 per cent more power and 12 per cent higher torque than its other 100cc engines.

According to Hero MotoCorp, the Splendor iSmart 110 has a stronger mid-range and top-range and the power doesn't tail off early when compared to the Splendor iSmart 100. Its torque curve is also flatter than the Splendor iSmart 100. Also, the Splendor iSmart 110 has a slightly higher 10:01 compression ratio compared to the 9.9:1 compression ratio of the Splendor iSmart 100. The Splendor iSmart 110 also gets Hero's i3S technology. When this system is engaged and the motorcycle is in neutral, the engine automatically switches off to conserve fuel. To start the engine, the rider just needs to pull the clutch lever.

The Splendor iSmart 110 gets a new double cradle chassis frame with the company saying that it offers "improved durability, enhanced agility and comfortable riding experience". The new chassis offers optimised torsional rigidity and a better front-rear balance without twitching which improves cornering and high-speed stability.

Another bit of the Hero Splendor iSmart 110 worth mentioning is its automatic headlamp on (AHO) feature. This safety feature turns on the headlamps as soon the engine is started. The switch to turn off the headlamps has been removed. It is similar to the DRLs feature on cars. In India, only the KTM bikes including the 200 Duke, 390 Duke, RC 200 and the RC 390 come equipped with this feature. Hero is the first company to offer this feature on a commuter motorcycle. The analogue instrument console gets a prominent speedometer and a service due indicator.

In terms of styling, it borrows cues from the Splendor iSmart 100 while the tail section clearly has been inspired from the bigger Hero Xtreme Sports. It gets tubeless tyres, five spoke alloy wheels, dual tone body graphics and mirrors as standard. It gets 130mm drum brakes at the front and 110mm drum brakes at the rear.In terms of dimensions, it gets a 1245mm wheelbase and a ground clearance of 165mm. The fuel tank can hold 8.5 litres while the kerb weight is 115kgs.

The new Hero Splendor iSmart 110 has already reached showrooms and is available in four colors - silver and black, red and black, blue and black, and sports red. It competes against the Honda Livo and the TVS Victor 110.
