Hyundai's latest premium offering, the Elantra, has received more than 1,100 bookings and 1,800 enquiries in six weeks of its launch, says the official statement. Hyundai launched the new-generation Elantra on August 23, 2016. Priced at between Rs 12.99-19.19 lakh (ex-Delhi), this C+ segment is available in five trims. Presently, the Elantra commands a waiting period of about two months.
The new-gen Hyundai Elantra is based on a new platform and measures 80mm longer and 25mm wider than the previous iteration. It measures 4,570mm in length, 1,800mm in width and 1,465mm in height. This one gets a ground clearance of 165mm and has a wheelbase of 2,700mm.
In terms of design, the 2016 Elantra gets a more premium design as seen with the sharp hexagonal grille in the front. It also comes equipped with HID lamps in addition to LED guide lights. The silhouette too has gone through a tweak, and Hyundai claims that the Elantra has a coefficient of 0.29.
The cabin too has gone through a major transformation and looks plusher than before. It gets a 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation. This system is also compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity options. The more expensive variants come with sunroof and an automatic tailgate system that opens the trunk as soon as the vehicle detects the key around the tail section.
Powering the new Hyundai Elantra is a 4-cylinder 1.6-litre diesel engine that makes 128PS at 4,000rpm and generates 260Nm of torque at 1,900-2,750rpm. The 1.8-litre petrol of the last-generation model has been replaced with a brand-new Nu 2.0-litre motor. This motor puts out 152PS at 6,200 rpm and makes 192Nm of torque at 4,000rpm.
