Korean carmaker, Kia Motors, has sold over one lakh cars in India in just 11 months. This is the fastest any carmaker has got to this milestone in India. The brand, a part of the Hyundai Motor Group, launched in India in August 2019. It's first offering was the Kia Seltos, which became the largest selling SUV in the country within two months of launch. This was followed by the launch of the Kia Carnival MPV at the 2020 Auto Expo in February 2020.

Since its debut, Kia has sold 97,745 units of the Seltos and 3,614 units of the Carnival. In doing this, the company has also become the largest seller of vehicles equipped with connected car tech in India, with over 50,000 such vehicles sold.

Prices for the Kia Seltos start from Rs 9.89 lakh for the base petrol variant and go up to Rs 17.34 lakh for the top-spec GT Line diesel auto. The SUV was recently refreshed with a rationalized variant line up and a new set of features. The Seltos comes with three engine and four gearbox options here. The only diesel engine available is a 1.5-litre unit which makes 115PS and 250Nm. The top-spec petrol is the 1.4-litre turbo-petrol, available on the GT-Line trims and makes 140PS and 242Nm. Then there is the 1.-5-litre naturally aspirated petrol with its 115PS and 144Nm, available only on the Tech Line cars. The turbo petrol can be had with a 7-speed DCT, the diesel with a six-speed torque-converter and the N/A petrol with a CVT. All three can be had with a six-speed manual too.

Powering the Kia Carnival MPV is the 200PS/440Nm 2.2-litre diesel paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. This is a variation of the same motor that does duty in the Hyundai Santa Fe SUV in India. However, unlike other MPVs like the Toyota Innova and V-Class, the Carnival is front-wheel drive and comes with a monocoque construction. Dimensionally, the Carnival is 1,755mm tall, 1,985mm wide and 5,115mm long. The wheelbase is 3,060mm. This means that the new Kia is larger than the Innova Crysta but smaller than the V-Class. Prices for the Carnival start at Rs 24.95 for the seven-seater with the premium trim and goes up to Rs 33.95 lakh for the seven-seater Limousine.
