The new generation Toyota Camry is all set to launch in India today. Available in Hybrid guide in India currently, the new eighth-gen model will likewise be available in its self-charging hybrid form. The eighth-gen model was launched internationally late last year and immediately got everyone's attention with its stand out styling. While the outgoing CBU-Toyota Camry Hybrid was priced at Rs 37.3 lakh, ex-showroom, we expect that price tag to swell marginally, to around the Rs 40 lakh, ex-showroom. The 2.5-litre hybrid powertrain has been lightly tweaked in the new-gen car, with optimised valve design and a host of other small changes, including the 4th gen Toyota Hybrid System, to increase efficiency to 23.27kmpl.
The move to the TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform allowed the designers and engineers the freedom to lower the centre of gravity, dropping height of the car as well.

Like we said, the new Camry is built on the TNGA-K (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform that's been the base of all new Lexus and Toyota models, and started with the Prius in 2015. It's essentially a platform for either FWD or AWD vehicles, with transversely mounted engines.
