Mahindra and Mahindra inaugurates new two-wheeler R&D centre
Mahindra has inaugurated their new two-wheeler R&D centre at the old Kinetic Motors facility in Pune. Anand Mahindra inaugurated the facility which will be headed by PS Ashok. The centre will be connected to various Mahindra R&D facilities across the businesses and will be responsible for developing Mahindra's two-wheelers. At the event, Mahindra took the wraps off the Duro DZ MicroHybrid, a scooter with a start-stop system. The company also showed off its new 110cc single cylinder engine, a horizontally laid cylinder design commuter engine, expected to debut on the new Stallio which is set for a pre-Diwali launch.
Also shown was a 300cc four-valve DOHC single that will power the Mojo, coming to market in Jan to March 2013. A third product was mentioned but no details were offered. Mahindra reiterated their intention to be a full-spectrum manufacturer and all other segments will eventually see Mahindra products. Anand Mahindra also noted the synergies between Reva and the two-wheelers businesses and confirmed that Mahindra will launch an electric scooter, but without offering any information on launch dates. Mahindra say this is the third largest two-wheeler R&D setup in India and have spent Rs 100 crore already with another 500 crores expected to be invested in the next five years.
