March 2016 issue of OVERDRIVE on stands now
OVERDRIVE started out the month of love with a little labour of love what else can you call petrolheads gallivanting about the Auto Expo (page 46)? On the more grounded side of things, the Maruti Suzuki Vittara Brezza and the Yamaha MT-09 looked all set to win hearts. Oh, and there was also a hot red revolving [sic] Ford Mustang that made new OD recruit Rahul Richard's head spin and a soon-to-be-launched Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT that got Rishabh Bhaskar drooling.
While other Auto Expo goers spent their time wishing and hoping and thinking and praying for a spin in the Tiguan at the Volkswagen pavilion, OVERDRIVE's German one-woman-army got her hands on the wheel on a frozen lake in Arvidsjaur. And no, our ice princess didn't just drive it in Snow mode. Yes, Vaishali Dinakaran's tests are the stuff of Tupac songs. Can Volkswagen win back our love with this SUV, post the emissions scandal? See page 98 to know more.
While its bright yellow concept cousin turned heads at the Expo, the regular KUV100 made rather honest, Notting Hill-eque implorations during the road test and comparo. But for our Rishaad Mody, "I'm just a girl standing in front of a boy. . ." just isn't good enough. And he also suspects she's a fatty. Turn to page 108 to see how that love story goes.
The C-Class meanwhile, gets territorial with the entry of the new Jaguar XE. And we love ourselves a good catfight. Rishaad Mody again plays referee (page 118). And what happens when the same hearts and the same transmission try to win over Halley Prabhakar? An AMT face-off between the Zest and Swift Dzire on page 132. But no winning over was needed with the Nissan X-Trail hybrid because it had Ashok George at "hello."
But after his thunderous love affair with the Aprilia Tuono last month, everything else paled in comparison for Shumi. But he discovered some Harley-kin romance with the oldworld charm of the Softail Classic (page 176). And if effortless love is what you're into, especially on the highway, then the Road King (page 174) should do the trick for you, albeit with a thick dose of chrome nostalgia. And the 1200 Custom again tries to impress our motorcycle man over with its fun, responsive nature. Does it work? Answers on page 170.
"You need to be ridden and often, by someone who knows how," was all Halley whispered to the Ducati Multistrada 1200S after the test ride. The rest, he went on about for six whole pages (page 178).
TVS' Akula concept at the Expo had us making cartoon-wolf eyes at it but we'll have to wait a looooooong while for it to hit production. TVS meanwhile tries to romance us with the Apache RTR 200 4V and the disappointingly 110cc-ed Victor. Reviews on page 160.
The romance continues in our motorsport section, in a letter to Stefan Bellof, the man who set fastest lap ever on the Nordschleife (page 184). We also have a detailed F1 forecast too, ahead of the season (page 194).
