Maruti Suzuki may recall 1.5 lakh units of its Swift Dzire model, the biggest ever recall of a single car model in India, a media report has said. The report says that the recall is likely to be initiated citing a defect in the neck of the fuel filler and affects the Swift Dzire models manufactured between 2013 and 2014.

The parts have been supplied by JBM in which Maruti Suzuki itself holds a 29.28 per cent stake. The supplier has already started manufacturing the replacement parts and Maruti will replace these parts absolutely free of cost. Some of the recalled vehicles also figure unsold units which have not left dealer showrooms. An official announcement is expected soon.

This is not the first time the sub-4m compact sedan has been recalled. It was part of an earlier recall of 1,492 vehicles by Maruti in November last year, which also included the Ertiga, A-Star and Swift models, over a faulty steering column.

The previous largest recall by Maruti Suzuki was in February 2010 was 1 lakh units of the A-Star mini car, including export models, to replace a faulty fuel pump gasket.

The largest ever manufacturer recall across models in India was by Ford last year when it called back 1.66 lakh units of the Figo and Classic to fix faults in rear suspension and power steering, a problem for which it had in 2012 recalled 1.28 lakh units of the same cars.

Also in July last year, General Motors had recalled 1.14 lakh units of the Tavera MPV after an internal enquiry found the engines did not meet emissions norms.
