Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza petrol could launch by August 2019
A news outlet reports* that Maruti Suzuki could launch the petrol version of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza sub-four-metre SUV by August 2019. The Vitara Brezza is currently only available with the 1.3-litre Multijet diesel motor.
Maruti Suzuki has also stated that it will not sell diesel cars in India once the BSVI norms kick in in April 2020, so a petrol engine for the Brezza is a foregone conclusion. Logically though, the new motor could have been the 1.2-litre Dualjet engine that debuted in the Baleno recently. This motor makes 90PS/113 Nm, is BSVI compliant and also comes with the Toyota Glanza. But as OVERDRIVE exclusively reported some months ago, Maruti Suzuki may forego the tax sops available to this size of cars and equip the Brezza with the 1.5-litre petrol from the facelifted Ciaz and the new Ertiga MPV.
This K15B motor makes 105PS and 138 Nm and is paired with Maruti Suzuki's Smart Hybrid tech. This system features a torque assist function and an improved start-stop system. A brake energy regeneration system that recharges the lithium-ion battery under deceleration is on offer as well.
The petrol variant of the Brezza will be a part of the car's midlife makeover plan - where the Brezza will see a significant bump in features like side airbags and a sunroof and creature comforts to counter the likes of the Hyundai Venue and Mahindra XUV300. This includes the latest in Maruti Suzuki's Smart Play and Smart Connect systems. Expect it to be priced arpund the Rs 7 to 11 lakh mark, ex-showroom India.
