Maruti Suzuki Vitara SUV spotted on test in India

The Maruti Suzuki Vitara SUV has been spotted on test in India. The Vitara is the larger SUV and if launched in India, will be positioned above the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza sub-compact SUV, and will rival the Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks and Renault Duster.

The styling on the test mule is similar to the international SUV on sale. The headlamp assembly has blue highlights surrounding the projectors.

The grille gets chrome finished vertically slated inserts. The side silhouette is that of a conventional SUV, and the Vitara sports a three-box design. The rear bumper gets a diffuser which mounts the reverse lamp. As seen on the Vitara Brezza, the international Vitara gets a dual tone colour scheme on offer as well.

Inside, the Vitara gets a basic layout with circular air ducts and a touch-operated infotainment system. The top-trim could see an offering of sunroof as well.

Internationally, there are two engines on offer, 1.0-litre and 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol units. The smaller one on offer produces power figures close to 110PS and the larger one produces around 140PS.

Both the engines come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and an optional 6-speed automatic - also, an all-wheel drive system is on offer as well. If sold in India, the company may offer the newly developed 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines.

If the Maruti Suzuki Brezza is launched in India, it could miss out on the all-wheel drivetrain option. Expect the pricing to be between Rs 9 lakh and 12 lakh, ex-showroom India.
