German premium car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz is prepping to launch its first-ever electric offering, the EQC in the country, which is expected to happen shortly. But before that, the company plans to drop a sportier version of its popular mid-sized SUV, the GLE. This will be the Mercedes- AMG GLE 53 4MATIC+ Coupe. Quite a mouthful of a name to be taken at one go but then the SUV promises to be an exciting offering as it marks the debut of the AMG 53 model series in India. As confirmed by the brand, the SUV will be launched on September 23 whereas the online bookings will commence from tomorrow.

2020, Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S, Coupé,

Powering the GLE 53 is AMG six-cylinder in-line engine with twin-turbocharging and EQ-Boost that uses a 3-litre engine to make 435PS of power and generate 520Nm of torque. The EQ Boost enables an additional 22PS of power with 250Nm of torque for a short period, and also feeds the 48-volt onboard electrical system. It is a 4Matic, which means power is sent to all the four wheels of the SUV using a Merc's 9-speed 9G automatic transmission. From standstill, the GLE 53 takes a claimed 5.3seconds to reach 100kmph with an electronically limited top speed of 250 kmph.

Making this spirited SUV look distinct compared to its standard version is the AMG-spec radiator grille. Further, the SUV sports larger outer air inlets, each with two side louvres in silver chrome, and black flics. Like the louvres of the air inlets and the trim on the A-wing, the front splitter is in silver chrome. As a part of standard equipment, the GLE 53 comes with lightweight 20-inch alloy wheels with AMG lettering. Further, one can choose from six different wheel sizes from 20 to 22 inches as an optional extra.
