More reasons to buy the 2013 Indian Polo GT 1.2 TSI

Volkswagen's new Polo GT TSI may feature a lot of firsts in the hatchback segment from a DSG 'box to a direct injection engine, but Volkswagen has made another crucial change to the car. It has managed to liberate more knee room at the rear by simply altering the front seat design.

The seats feature a similar seat squab as before offering good thigh support, but the seat back is now slimmer. These are now scooped out at the back to offer more rear knee room. The seats might be slimmer, but are still firm and well bolstered, and as a result the back support remains comfortable. Scooped out, slimmer front seats isn't a new idea though. We have already seen Honda, Maruti Suzuki and Toyota use it to good effect in the Brio, Alto 800, and the Liva, respectively. And the end result is equally impressive in the Polo.

Now, unlike its sedan sibling, the Vento, which isn't short on rear knee room, the Polo with its shorter wheelbase makes for a cramped rear. Compared to the shorter in length Toyota Liva, the maximum rear knee room is almost 100mm less. Rear passenger space has been one of the biggest complaints in the Polo and it seems Volkswagen is taking customer feedback very seriously. The problem had to be fixed and resulted in the company going back to the drawing board to come up with the new seats. These seats definitely help generate more space in the GT TSI and to justify the premium over other hatchbacks, the regular variants of the Polo will also feature them very soon.

This isn't the first time that Volkswagen has made alterations to the Polo in line with customer demands, however. The Polo and Vento both went through a mid life facelift recently, and had smoked headlamps and added features to show for it. Moreover, Volkswagen has also been pushing these models with affordable finance schemes, festive offers and cash discounts. the company had also launched special edition models of the cars to boost sales.
