MotoGP 2017: Maverick Vinales on pole for Qatar GP
Maverick Vinales will start the 2017 Qatar GP on pole
The rain came down by the buckets at Qatar. And with the track not equipped with the right drainage system to quickly clear the water off the surface, Free Practice 4 and Qualifying were both cancelled. This meant that the grid positions for the race were decided based on the combined free practice results from earlier sessions. This has resulted in Maverick Vinales of Yamaha claiming top spot on the grid. Vinales will be joined on the front row by Andrea Iannone from Suzuki, and Repsol Honda's Marc Marquez.
Former sparring team-mates Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo (now with Ducati) have 10th and 12th spot on the grid.
