New Volvo XC90 to be launched in India on May 12, 2015
You can now book yourself the biggest Volvo car from a dealership near you, with the launch scheduled for May 12, 2015. The booking amount itself is the price of a small hatchback (Rs 5 lakh) and yes, is non refundable. The Swedish company will showcase a special customer preview next week to the people who have booked it to assure them of the investment they're making. The launch has been moved ahead from its original date in September, 2015.
The design is part of Volvo's fresh new design philosophy.The new XC90 carries it forward. In fact, it was also nominated for this year's World Car Design of the Year award.
The XC90, globally is available in three trims, however India won't be getting the basic Kinetic version.The Momentum and the higher spec Inscription will most likely come to India. From these, the Inscription will come first. The interiors are fresh and devoid of too many buttons in both variants.
Under the hood, both the variants will get the D5 engine. The powertrain makes 225PS of power and 470Nm from its 2.0-litre twin-turbo four-cylinder diesel engine. These figures aren't very exciting if you compare them to the competiton so if you want an enthusiast's SUV, the Volvo XC90 may not pass the muster. The numbers though that will impress you is the company claimed 17kmpl. So whatever you miss out on grunt, you make up in frugality. The T8 petrol hydrid engine is expected to make its way under the hood later on in 2015.
The XC90 will go up against the Mercedes-Benz GL Class and the BMW X5. Also, the new Audi Q7 is on its way, so expect this segment to get a whole lot more interesting.
