The four-wheeler segment in India continued its slump in November 2013 with the sales of passenger vehicles falling 10.18 per cent in this period as compared to November 2012.

Figures released by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) show that 2,01,520 passenger vehicles were sold during the month as against 2,24,369 units in November last year.

Among the passenger vehicles, the car sales declined from 1,55,535 in November 2012 to 1,42,849 last month, down 8.16%. The sales number of utility vehicles too dropped 9.14% from an earlier 48,692 to 44,243 units. The van sales dropped over 28% from 20,142 in the penultimate month of 2012 to 14,428 units in November 2013.

The industry produced a total 1,773,678 vehicles including passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, three wheelers and two wheelers in November 2013 as against 1,644,723 in November 2012, registering a growth of 7.84 percent over the same month last year. However, the growth continues to be on account of growth in two wheelers production.

In the month of November, the industry produced 2,44,331 passenger vehicles, 6.75% less that what it produced last year. The production of utility vehicles saw a 3.28% rise, largely driven by demand of Indian UVs in foreign markets. Exports grew over five times from 522 in November 2012 to 3,309 units last month.

The overall domestic sales during April-November 2013 grew marginally by 2.73% over the same period last year. Again this is because of growth in two wheelers sales.

The sales of passenger vehicles dropped 5.34 percent during April-November 2013 over the same period last year. Passenger cars, utility vehicles and Vans dropped by 4.97%, 3.62% and 12.23% respectively during April-November 2013 compared to the same period last year.

The overall Commercial Vehicles segment registered a de-growth of 17.51% in April-November 2013 as compared to the same period last year. Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicles (M&HCVs) registered negative growth at 26.81% and Light Commercial Vehicles also dropped by 12.52%.
