Production-ready Volkswagen XL 1 coming to Geneva
Volkswagen is ready to make your dream come true. Which dreams? A car with 100kmpl fuel efficiency. You read it right. The XL 1 which started life as a concept in 2002 is ready for a production debut at the 2013 Geneva Auto Show. A two-seater, the XL 1 uses a 47PS two-cylinder 800cc diesel engine and a 20kW electric motor. The engines are mated to a 7-speed DSG box. The clutch for the electric motor is fitted between the diesel engine and gearbox. With just a kerb weight of 795kg, a drag coefficient of 0.189, the XL 1 races from 0-100kmph in a claimed 12.7 seconds, to a top speed just shy of 160kmph.
While the XL 1 can cover 50kms only on electric power, the 10-litre fuel tank can take it roughly to 500km.
