Renault Kwid launched in India at Rs 2.56 lakh

The Renault Kwid was launched at Rs 2.56 lakh (ex-Delhi) for the base variant. The Kwid will be offered in six variants with the top spec RXT (O) trim costing Rs 3.53 lakh. The Kwid hosts a few first-in-segment features such as a touchscreen infotainment with sat nav and a fully digital instrument cluster. A driver's side airbag is offered as optional on the top-end RXT (O) trim. An array of personalisation packs and accessories are offered too.

This car was practically tailor-made for Indian conditions and tastes. This is seen clearly in the SUV-like exterior that we Indians love, and also in the ground clearance which measures up to a good 180mm. The boot space too is quite generous at 300 litres.

The Kwid runs a 799cc DOHC 3-cylinder petrol engine that produces 54PS and 72Nm. It is mated to a 5-speed manual as of now, but there are plans of introducing an automated manual transmission (AMT) in the future.

The Kwid will take on the likes of the Datsun Go, Hyundai Eon and the popular Maruti Alto 800. It has also achieved 98 per cent localisation levels and Renault claims that the car's maintenance cost will be 19 per cent cheaper than the current market leader.

Bookings for the Kwid have been open for a while but customers can also download the Renault Kwid app on their Android phones to book one.
