Renault showcases Duster Detour at JIMS 2013
A Duster being claimed as the combination of "Mad Max, Terminator and Dakar dust" has been revealed. Renault South Africa has unveiled a concept Duster at the recently held Johannesburg International Motor Show (JIMS 2013).
The Renault Duster Detour, as it is called, is basically a decked up version of the Renault/Dacia Duster facelift. It was designed by a collaboration between Renault's European design arm and a design studio based in Johannesburg.
The podded headlight cluster with LED DRLs, twin slat grille, wide wheel arches, 18-inch dual tone alloys with all-errain wheels, nudge bar, LED taillamps, dual exhausts and spoiler are the cosmetic additions. The car gets a pearl yellow and matte grey paint job with tinted windows and the blackened pillars.
Mechanicals remain unchanged with the Duster still being powered by the 1.5-litre diesel that makes 85PS or 110PS depending on state of tune or the 1.6-litre petrol that churns out 104PS.
"Following the introduction of the ground-breaking Renault Duster range in mid-September, the funky, futuristic Detour SUV couldn't have come at a better time. We've received an amazing response from potential buyers who have flooded our website and social network platforms to discover Duster's line-up. Our dealers are extremely busy organizing hundreds of test drives," said Floyd Ramabulanathe, product manager, Renault South Africa.
