Renault Triber AMT expected to launch on May 18

Team OD Updated: May 11, 2020, 10:09 PM IST

A document meant to prepare dealers for the launch of the Renault Triber AMT has been leaked on the internet. This suggests that the automatic version of the popular MPV is set to be launched in India on May 18. The Triber AMT has already been showcased at Auto Expo 2020.

The Triber's 999cc Energy engine makes 72PS at 6,250rpm and 96 Nm at 3,500rpm, currently paired with a 5-speed manual. The Triber will get the same Easy-R 5-speed AMT as seen in the Kwid. We expect the AMT box to be available in the top two variants, RXT and RXZ. Unlike in the Kwid, this version does away with the rotary dial for gear selection and gets a traditional shifter. Renault has already revealed the Triber AMT's fuel-efficiency figures to be 20.5kmpl.

It is also expected that Renault will introduce a new 1.0-litre turbo-petrol motor for the Triber which was also showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo. This is the TCe 100 motor already available internationally in the Renault Clio and the Nissan Micra. This motor is already Euro-6DTemp compliant abroad, equivalent to our BSVI norms. The motor puts out up to 100PS and 160 Nm.

The Renault Triber launched in India in August 2019 and has been a big success, over 10,000 units were sold within two months of launch. The Triber sits on a heavily reworked version of the CMF-A platform. It has been specifically designed for the India market and has been jointly developed by the firm's French and Indian teams. Dimensionally, it is 3,990mm long, 1,739mm wide and 1,643mm tall. The wheelbase is 2,636mm. Boot space is between 84 litres and 625 litres. Five colour options are available. The 7-seater MPV's USP is its highly flexible seating arrangement, which includes a pair of third-row seats that can be removed completely. Four trims are currently available, prices for the base RXE are Rs 4.95 lakh, while the top RXZ variant costs Rs 6.49 lakh. The AMT versions could charge a Rs 30,000 to 35,000 premium over this.
