Skoda auto has previewed its first-ever fully electric car, the Skoda Enyaq iV, in design sketches ahead of its debut globally on September 1. The Enyaq iV, given its more versatile MEB underpinnings, debuts Skoda's new design themes for its EVs.

The Enyaq iV continues to feature a vestigial Skoda butterfly grille. Only the outline remains now, but this has been made larger and more upright than previous Skoda cars. Another new touch is the full-width LED DRL that splits the grille in half, the headlamps themselves are more deep-set and swept-back further than other Skoda cars. There is a similar treatment to the slimmer taillamps as well. Both are full-LED units.

The sharp bodylines from newer Skoda cars like the latest Octavia have carried over here as well. The big change with the Enyaq iV though is that the EV architecture has allowed Skoda to give it more aggressive proportions. The distinctive upright stance of the Kodiaq and Karoq have given way to a more aggressively sloping roofline and larger wheels. The relatively longer wheelbase has also meant that the wheels have been pushed out further.

Skoda Auto has also recently revealed what the interiors of the Enyaq iV might look like. The basic layout mimics what was first seen on the new-gen Skoda Octavia. The dash has similar flowing, layered design, while the number of physical buttons have reduced. There is a large 13-inch central infotainment screen and a small bank of physical buttons. The new Skoda two-spoke steering wheel makes an appearance here as well. The idea has been to improve the sense of space in the cabin. Know more about the Enyaq's interiors here.

The Enyaq is one of 11 electrified models that Skoda wants to launch globally by 2022. Currently, it will join the Citigo iV and Superb iV in the Czech brand's electrified line-up with the new Skoda Octavia RS iV. The Enyaq will be available in five different power variants and three battery sizes, and will be RWD or AWD depending on the variant chosen. The Skoda Enyaq iV will be launched internationally in early 2021, with production beginning in late 2020 at the Mladá Boleslav plant.
