Mahindra and Mahindra will  launch a refresh of their best selling SUV, the Scorpio sometime this year in India. OVERDRIVE reader Prakash Raj caught this car testing in Tamil Nadu with minimum camouflage suggesting that the launch is not too far off. This particular test mule seems a base version of the Scorpio as there are black bumpers and steel wheels.

The image indicates that the front fascia has been reworked but still has Scorpio genes. The headlamp housings look new and it appears that Mahindra will offer projectors in place of the regular bulbs. The grille and bumpers have also been tweaked. The side profile looks the same as the current car while the tail lamps seem new although the overall shape should remain.

While we don't have interiors pictures at the moment, it is expected that the new Scorpio will be heavily inspired by the XUV500. The dashboard will be revised heavily and have a new touchscreen infotainment system in place. Mahindra will also introduce an XUV-inspired steering wheel. The gear lever though is expected to be a long throw one as is in the current car.

Expect the Scorpio facelift to soldier on with the current crop of engines- a 120PS 2.2-litre motor and 75PS 2.5-litre m2DiCR. They will be mated either to the 6-speed auto or 5-speed manual transmissions.

The Mahindra Scorpio is more than 10 years old but still manages to sell around 4,000 units a month. With the entry of new players like the Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano, Mahindra is looking to revamp its best seller to keep up with the competition.
