Spied: Chevrolet Beat facelift spotted testing in India
When Chevrolet showcased the Essentia and the Beat Activ concept at the 2016 Auto Expo, it was evident that a refreshed Beat was in works. And now camouflaged test mule of the Chevrolet Beat facelift have been spotted testing. The updated version of the hatchback will be launched sometime next year.
The Essentia is based on the the M300 platform which also underpins the upcoming Beat Activ crossover
The spied images reveal the new large profile headlamp design, sleek radiator grille with a chrome surround as well as a more sculpted front bumper with fog lamps. Its central air dam looks identical to that of the existing Chevrolet Beat. The same has been already seen on the Essentia sedan. From the images, it is evident that the Chevrolet Beat facelift will not go through a change in the dimensions. This particular variant was mostly the base variant as it was running on steel wheels.The top-end variants will sport alloy wheels. The rear profile gets a revised light design and a repositioned registration plate which now sits on the bumper and not on the boot lid.
The most interesting bit inside the Chevrolet Beat was its motorcycle-like instrument cluster which, we believe, may get a revision in the facelift model. Also, as shown in the Essentia sedan, the Beat facelift might be equipped with the MyLink2 touchscreen infotainment system, again a feature that will only be in the top-end variants.
Currently, the Chevrolet Beat is powered by a 1.0-litre diesel motor that produces 57.1PS at 4,000rpm and generates 142.5Nm at 1,750rpm. This engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The petrol variants make use of a 1.2-litre motor that makes 77.9PS and 106.5Nm and comes paired to a 5-speed manual transmission. The same will be carried over in the Beat facelift as well.
Upon its launch in early next year, the Chevrolet Beat facelift will compete with the likes of the Hyundai Grand i10, Maruti Suzuki Swift, Tata Bolt in India.
